Melting Supervisor and Technician

Description:

This position has the responsibility of supervising and technical metallurgical support for both the Grovetown and Thomson foundries including but not limited to melting and pouring operations, controlling procedures for melting, alloying, and pouring of irons, white irons, and developing the process to be able to pour stainless steels and carbon steels, while striving for zero accidents through an organized environmental, health, and safety program. This person develops procedures for cost reductions in areas of increased furnace lining life, reduction of melting and pouring related scrap and rework, reduction of cycle times of the melting between charging and tapping of furnaces, ladle maintenance, energy savings from lowering pouring temperatures, and furnace and power supply maintenance. Controls inventory of raw materials and develops least cost charges. Responsible for maintenance of the analysis equipment such as spectrographs, carbon analyzers and other laboratory equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Foundry Melting Department in Grovetown and coaches the Thomson melting supervisor. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree (B.S.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
